De hot stone massage is een behandeling die reeds geïntroduceerd werd in de Griekse en Romeinse tijd. Het is dus helemaal niet zo vreemd. Voor de massage worden alleen afgeronde basaltstenen gebruikt. Basalt is een hard en ijzerhoudend, vulkanisch gesteente met een hoge dichtheid, ideaal om voor een langere tijd warmte vast te houden.
Wat kan je verwachten?
Eerst dompelen we de stenen onder in een warmwaterbad. Daarna leggen we ze op de aandachtsgebieden van het lichaam – meestal je rug. Dit geeft een aangename warmte en ontspanning, maar ook een zekere druk.
Na een legging van de hot stones op het lichaam masseren we je verder los met de warme stenen en warme olie. De massage bestaat vooral uit lange rustige en ronde strijkingen. Speciale effecten verschillen per masseur. Die kan bijvoorbeeld de steen ronddraaien of erop trommelen. De kracht van een hot stone massage zit in de combinatie van warmte en beweging. Daardoor werkt de massage dieper in op het spierweefsel. Nadien voel je je als herboren.
